NEWARK, Del. --- Joey Mundy (Huntington, W.Va.) and Logan McRae (Florence, S.C.) both homered and three pitchers combined on a one-hitter as College of Charleston ran its win streak to seven games with a 5-0 victory over Delaware on Friday evening.
College of Charleston (35-19, 15-8 CAA) scored four of its five runs with two outs and finished with 11 hits including four for extra bases. The Cougars recorded their fourth shutout of the season after holding Delaware (21-32, 9-14 CAA) scoreless on a solitary single in the seventh.
Griffin McLarty (Buckner, Ky.), Brooks Lucas (Greenville, S.C.) and Nathan Ocker (Middletown, Pa.) combined for 11 strikeouts in the Cougars’ first one-hitter since their 9-0 victory over South Carolina last May. McLarty fanned eight and did not surrender a hit in six innings to earn his eighth win. His eight strikeouts pushed his season total to 108 which moves him into fourth on the program’s single-season list. Lucas struck out two and allowed a single in two frames as Ocker worked a perfect ninth.
Mundy gave the Cougars all the insurance they would need with a solo shot in the second as part of a 3-for-4 effort. McRae launched a three-run bomb in the sixth – his ninth homer of the season and 34th of his career – as Dupree Hart (Rock Hill, S.C.) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and his 39th stolen base of the campaign.
Jordan Hutchins recorded the lone base knock for Delaware as Kevin Mohollen drew two of the Blue Hens’ four walks. Chris Ludman surrendered four runs on eight hits and struck out seven in seven and one-third innings to take the loss. Winston Allen allowed one unearned run on three hits in one and two-third frames of relief.
