SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol arrested a man after a deadly crash early Sunday morning that led to a fatality.

Timothy Murray, 32, faces a charge of Felony DUI resulting in a death, according to Highway Patrol Cpl. Sonny Collins.

The crash happened at approximately 12:15 a.m. on Highway 17A near Summers Drive near Summerville, Collins said.

Investigators say Murray was traveling North on Highway 17A when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a 2010 Ford F250 pickup truck. The truck then ran off the roadway striking a tree, killing the driver.

Collins said Murray was taken to the hospital to be checked out then arrested on the charge. Murray was being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center.

The coroner identified the victim as 63-year-old Stephen Jerome Potts of Ridgeville.

Officials with the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office say Potts was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The body has been taken to The Medical University of South Carolina for an autopsy, scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m.,” DCCO officials said.
