SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - Several people living on Ridge Road are hoping for increased safety at the intersection where Bacons Bridge Road meets their street.

Data from the state’s Department of Public Safety shows there have been at least 18 crashes at the intersection of Bacons Bridge Road and Ridge Road since 2014.

During that time, SCDPS numbers show crashes injured 11 people and killed one person in 2016.

Between 2014 to 2017, there were four to five crashes per year, according to data from SCDPS.

People who live near the intersection said they believe there have been more accidents than four to five per year.

But a spokesperson for SCDPS said the data reflects any accident that resulted in $1,000 or more in damage.

Now neighbors are asking for increased safety at that intersection, like a stoplight.

A spokesperson from the South Carolina Department of Transportation has not responded to a request for comment about such requests.
