CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Lowcountry Food Bank is doing its part to help end summer childhood hunger.
On Thursday, will have three pop up picnic locations.
The program is set up to make sure kids and their families don’t go hungry when school isn’t in session. There will be free ice cream, games and giveaways.
“We know that summer can be the hungriest time of year for many children especially those that rely on free or reduced price school meals," Community Engagement Coordinator for the food bank Christina Auth said. "With our summer meals program, we’re alble to bring nutritious meals into the community and give children some fun games and activities to play as well.”
Last year, the summer meals program was able to serve at least 80,000 meals. At Thursday’s event, kids can stop by and pick up free lunch and come home with at least 10 pounds of produce.
