Lowcountry man accused of sexually assaulting children between the ages of 2 and 16

WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Authorities have arrested a 53-year-old Lowcountry man accused of sexually assaulting children between the ages of 2 and 16.

The Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office arrested John Dan Cook of Andrews on June 4.

A report by the sheriff’s office states Cook performed a sex act on the victims from incidents dating back to 1978 to 2018.

Cook’s 2018 charges stem from allegations that he sexually assaulted a child behind a business and made the victim perform a sexual act on him.

According to investigators, during the same year, Cook photographed a victim’s genitals, and allowed a minor to review a film and other visual depictions that are “harmful to minors.”

Arrest affidavits state that between October of 1978 and October of 1992, Cook committed a lewd on a victim under the age of 16.

The victim told investigators that this happened to them from ages 2 through 16.

Cook was arrested on the following charges:

  • Six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor or attempt with victim under 11 years of age
  • Third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor commit/attempt lewd act/victim under 16 years and actor over 14 years
  • Second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor
  • Disseminating harmful material or exhibiting harmful performance to minors
