Hotel in North Charleston being shut down due to mold, unsafe conditions

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - City officials say a hotel in North Charleston is being shut down due to mold and unsafe conditions.

According to authorities, guests will have until noon on Monday to leave the Dorchester Road Inn on 3668 Dorchester Road.

A public safety walk through is also scheduled for Monday. Hotel management said there are currently 31 people at the hotel.

Officials said half of the building has already been condemned.

The hotel is listed as an extended stay online.

People who live there say they were told by North Charleston Code Enforcement they only had until Saturday to leave.

Lisa Mutter, who has lived at the inn for more than a year, says she lives on a fixed income with her husband and autistic son, and she says she has nowhere else to go.

“They haven’t offered to give us any money to go somewhere else,” said Mutter. “Now we all have to leave, and we don’t have any place to go.”

We have reached out to the hotel for comment, but were told the owner and managers weren’t available.
