Deputies capture two suspects in fatal shooting following manhunt in Walterboro

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Colleton County coroner has identified the man who died Tuesday in a shooting in Walterboro.

Akeem Carr, 22, died at a home on Francis Street, according to Coroner Richard Harvey.

Two suspects, Kareem Risher and Reakwon Daye, have been arrested in connection with the shooting after a manhunt on Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff Andy Strickland said deputies and dogs tracked them to a home in the area of Rivers and Grayson streets where a standoff took place. According to the sheriff’s office, the two suspects hid in the attic of the home, and eventually came out peacefully.

Strickland says a deputy who saw the shooting saw a car leave the crime scene and a car chase ensued.

Earlier in the day deputies surrounded the neighborhood and searched every street and knocked on some doors. Authorities were seen in the area of Pine Needle, Cleveland, Jackson, Grayson, King and Francis streets.

Authorities said due to the increased size in square mileage where coverage is needed SLED had been asked to come in as the acting agency in regards to the case.

“SLED is able to provide extra manpower to assist with the search to ensure a thorough investigation takes place as well as assisting deputies in ensuring the safety of all residents,” CCSO officials said in a statement earlier in the day.

In addition, authorities said SCDNR was also providing canine assistance.
