Deputies arrest 90-year-old man accused of killing wife

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A man was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife in Dorchester County on Saturday.

Edwin Nelson, Jr., 90, was taken into custody without incident and charged with murder and according to officials.

Sarah M. Nelson, 83, of Ridgeville, SC died at the scene after being fatally shot on Saturday morning, according to Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers.

According to officials, around 5:20 a.m. deputies responded to 1768 Highway 61 in Ridgeville after dispatch received a call from a man who said he shot his wife.

In the affidavit report, it states that deputies arrived on scene and located the defendant lying beside the victim.

The victim had an apparent gunshot would to the chest and a .38 caliber revolver was recovered from the scene.

Bunny Igoe and her husband were long-time friends and neighbors of Nelson and his wife. Igoe said everyone knew the two in the area as a normal.

“Knowing how he loved her, they were always walking hand in hand, I think the medication that they changed him to or something had altered his mind in order for him to come to this," said Igoe.

Nelson is being held without bond.
