VIDEO: Crash on Don Holt Bridge causing major delays on I-526

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Two different crashes on I-526 caused a major backup in the westbound lanes that lasted into the lunch hour.

Both crashes have been cleared as of shortly before 1 p.m.

But at one point, the drive time from Mount Pleasant to West Ashley, which is normally between 18 and 20 minutes, was taking nearly 80 minutes.

The first crash, reported at 9:14 a.m. by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, involved an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck, witnesses said. That accident has since been cleared.

The second crash took much longer to clear. It blocked the two right westbound lanes at the top of the Don Holt Bridge. It was reported at 9:42 a.m., the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. The scene took crews more than three hours to clear.
