CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Emergency officials say crews have secured a gas leak at a hospital construction site in downtown Charleston.
Hospital officials say the leak was at the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital and Pearl Tourville Women’s Pavillion on 326 Calhoun Street.
According to MUSC officials, workers digging holes for new trees unexpectedly cut an underground line located on the Calhoun Street side of the building.
“Construction teams were evacuated from the construction site as a safety precaution,” hospital officials said."No other areas were evacuated and the gas has been turned off."
A report states crews are working to repair the line now and the construction team has been given the all clear to return to the building.
