DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - A man is in custody after authorities say he barricaded himself inside his apartment at a complex in Dorchester County on Wednesday.
The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office arrested 60-year-old David Dubois.
A report states that it all began just after 9 a.m. when a Dorchester County Civil Process Server attempted to serve Dubois with papers at his home on Ironwood Trail.
“Dubois made threatening remarks and would not come to the door,” DCSO officials said."The server asked for backup. A deputy responded to the scene."
According to the sheriff’s office, when the deputy and the process server went to the door again, they were met by Dubois who was swinging a machete and lunged at them.
Deputies said Dubois retreated to his apartment, and additional deputies were called to the scene.
“Attempts were made by deputies on the scene to get Dubois to talk with them,” DCSO officials said."When those attempts failed a negotiator reported to the scene. The negotiator was also unable to get the suspect to speak with her. After repeated attempts failed the SET (Special Entry Team) responded."
Investigators say many more attempts were made to get Dubois to leave the apartment but those were also met with resistance from Dubois.
“The SET eventually used distraction devices and tear gas to safely enter the apartment. Once inside Dubois was taken into custody,” the sheriff’s office said."Mr. Dubois nor any deputies were injured during the operation."
