CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad responded to a call in the Awendaw area Saturday night.

They received a report that a person was experiencing a medical issue and was unable to drive their own boat back to shore.

Squad Chief Hinton says they launched their landing craft vessel from the Garris Boat Landing near Seewee Road.

Hinton says they responded to Bulls Island to retrieve the person and brought that person back to receive medical care from Charleston County EMS who took the patient to the hospital.

Other agencies assisted in the rescue efforts.

The initial call came in just before 10 p.m. to Bulls Bay Island, according to dispatch.
