Authorities identify Mount Pleasant man killed in shooting

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has identified a man who was killed in a shooting in unincorporated Mount Pleasant.

Authorities say 29-year-old Ronnie Coakley Jr. from Mount Pleasant died at the Medical University of South Carolina on Sunday night.

Deputies responded to the 1400 block of Boston Grill Road at around 8:49 p.m. on Sunday, according to Charleston County dispatch.

A man was then found with a gunshot wound to the chest, and later died at the hospital.

Detectives believe the shooting happened in a vacant lot, according to sheriff’s office spokesman Roger Antonio.

Crime scene investigators found numerous shell casings at the scene, but citizens in the area weren’t willing to talk with detectives about the shooting.
