CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Some streets in downtown Charleston were briefly closed on Wednesday morning for an unlikely sight: Santa Claus riding through the city on a motorcycle.
He teamed up with the Charleston Police Department to deliver gifts to children in need in the downtown area.
Santa, Mrs. Claus, elves and police officers made stops at the Ronald McDonald House, the Fisher House and Buist Academy.
“Everybody’s just going to try to make this a proactive event to do some good in our communities," Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds said. “It’s a fun event and a fun way of giving back.”
This is the first year the police department has done the Santa ride downtown and they hope to do it again in the future.
