SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - Christmas is exactly one week away, and you could give the perfect gift to some students in the tricounty.

Their teacher at Summerville High School is requesting costumes to help these dance students look their best for performances. We first told you about them last week, and wanted to give you another chance to fund the project.

These students at Summerville High look forward to school, thanks in part to dance class. It’s not biology or math, but studies have shown that arts programs encourage focus and discipline, and could help students excel in their main courses.

Last week, dance teacher Laura Kogan needed $588 to complete a request on the Donors Choose website for some standard costumes students could wear during their performances. Now, she needs $450 to purchase them.

Live 5 News wants to get the ball rolling on making this wish come true for these students in time for the holidays. We’re contributing $100 in gift cards awarded to the station from the Donors Choose website, that can be used to help teachers in our area.

That means Kogan now only needs $350. Christmas is just days away and a donation to this project would make a great gift for some potential future dancers.

Your contributions are tax deductible. Donors Choose collects your donations, purchases the items, and sends them to the teacher, ensuring that your money is used for the purpose intended.
