CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Bomb Squad responded Wednesday to investigate the discovery of what was believed to be Civil War ordnance.

Workers digging a swimming pool in the 100 block of Ashley Avenue found what appeared to be a cannon ball, according to Charleston Police spokesman Charles Francis.

The bomb squad determined the item was a wooden buoy, he said.

No streets were closed during the incident, Francis said.
