VIDEO: Man shot Tuesday night at Charleston Co. apartment complex has died

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Coroner's Office says a Summerville man died late Tuesday night after being shot at a Charleston County apartment complex.

Mark Smith, Jr., 35, died at Trident Medical Center at approximately 10:52 p.m., according to a release from the coroner's office.

Charleston County deputies responded at approximately 8:07 p.m. to the Waters at Magnolia Bay Apartments on Highway 78 East, Capt. Roger Antonio said.

EMS took the victim to an area hospital while deputies conducted interviews and processed the scene.

Detectives interviewed a woman and determined the shooting "stemmed from a domestic dispute between her and the male," Antonio said.

The man died a short time later, Antonio said.

The coroner's office says the cause of death is pending an autopsy.

There have been no arrests so far, but the investigation remains active, he said.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office at 843-202-1700 or Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry at 843-554-1111.
