KNIGHTSVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Coroner identified the Summerville man who died Saturday in an accident involving a farm tractor.

Joseph F. Teal, Jr., 61, was crushed by the tractor attachment while he was lying on the ground beneath it and working on it, Coroner Paul Brouthers said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office are investigating.

Incident report released

The sheriff’s office released the incident report which states it all began when a deputy responded to Belle Meade Lane for someone being trapped under a tractor.

When the deputy he arrived he saw the victim unresponsive next to the tractor. Deputies and firefighters performed CPR until EMS arrived who determined that the victim was beyond help.

According to the responding deputy, it appeared the victim had crawled under an attachment on the back of the tractor to make a repair.

The deputy reported that due to a hydraulic leak the attachment came down on top of the victim.

A witness said she initially saw the victim unresponsive, so she and her husband responded to the scene and was able to get the victim out from under the tractor and begin CPR.
