FLORENCE COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - Search and rescue crews in Florence County found a missing 11-year-old child Sunday.

Chief Deputy Glen Kirby with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office said crews found the child’s body at around 2 p.m.

The child was washed away by floodwater at Fork Road in Effingham at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Kirby.

The Howe Springs Fire Department and South Lynch’s Fire Department led the search, and the Florence County Sheriff’s Office assisted. Dive teams from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources also aided in the search.

Kirby said the child was playing in the water, but went into water that was too deep and drifted away.
