Eastbound lane of I-26 reopens after early-morning vehicle fire

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A vehicle fire early Friday slowed eastbound traffic on I-26 during the morning commute.

The left eastbound lane was blocked as crews responded to the fire, which was reported near mile marker 209 at 6:04 a.m., according to the South Carolina Department of Public Safety. Shortly before 7 a.m., the commute time from Summerville to downtown Charleston was taking nearly twice as long because of the blocked lane.

FIRST ALERT TRAFFIC: The vehicle fire has blocked the left lane of I-26EB near Ashley Phosphate.

All lanes have since reopened after the vehicle and emergency crews cleared the scene.

Authorities have not yet said whether any injuries were involved.
