GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - South Carolina Highway Patrol says two people have died in a head-on collision in Georgetown County.

Troopers say that both vehicles were traveling on eastbound side of US-521 at around 5 a.m. Thursday, but in different directions.

One car was traveling west in the eastbound lane when troopers say it collided with a second car driving the proper direction in the same lane.

Highway Patrol says the driver going the incorrect way had multiple passengers and one of them died in the crash. The driver of the second vehicle was the only person in their car and troopers say they also died in the crash.

The driver of the car going the wrong way and their two other passengers have been taken to a hospital, Highway Patrol says.

Troopers say to contact The Georgetown County Coroner’s Office for more information on the victims.

This collision remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, troopers say.
