CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The body recovered from a river has been identified as a missing man from Georgetown County.
Coroner Kenny Johnson identified the body as that of 21-year-old Michael Hechler. An autopsy has been scheduled.
Johnson’s body was recovered from the Black River by the sheriff’s office marine patrol. Johnson had been reported missing by his family on Sunday.
According to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office, a vehicle belonging to a family member was recovered from the river Monday with the assistance of the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.
“Damage to the vehicle indicates it was involved in an accident at the boat landing,” GCSO officials said.
