COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - Louisiana head coach Billy Napier and Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze are the early betting favorites to replace Will Muschamp as the head football coach at South Carolina.
Odds were released on Tuesday morning and Napier, the former Clemson and Alabama assistant coach, was the favorite to land the job in Columbia at 3-1 odds. Napier is in his 3rd season with the Cajuns and has led the team to a 7-1 record this year.
Freeze, who had success at Ole Miss before being resigning in a scandal involving phone calls to a female escort service, is 2nd at 4-1. Freeze has been at Liberty since 2018 and has the Flames at 8-0 this season.
Oklahoma assistant Shane Beamer, who spent 4 seasons as an assistant with the Gamecocks under Steve Spurrier, has the 3rd best odds at 5-1.
Jamey Chadwell, the Coastal Carolina head coach and former head coach at Charleston Southern has the 4th best odds at 6-1.
South Carolina fired Will Muschamp on Sunday in the middle of his 5th season.
