CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department says crews responded to the scene of several accidents Saturday night.

They say eastbound lanes of I-526 between Riverland and the Wando Bridge were closed for about 2 to 3 hours because of several accidents. It reopened at about 11:45 p.m., police say.

Drivers were asked to find alternate routes.

Officers say one accident involved a pickup truck that ended up under an 18-wheeler after rear-ending it at a high rate of speed.

They say the driver of the pickup truck was transported to MUSC with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

As police were preparing to leave the scene, they say they received a call regarding another accident, unrelated to the first.

Officers say the second accident was minor and happened on I-526 near Daniel Island.

No word yet on any injuries as a result of that crash.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
