CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol says Highway 78 has reopened after a crash has blocked both directions of the road in Dorchester County.

Troopers say the fatal crash happened at 5:15 a.m. near the intersection of Ridgeville Road/SC-27 and Highway 78.

SCHP says that a Peterbilt dump truck was traveling north on SC-27 when it crashed while attempting to turn left onto Highway 78.

After turning left, troopers say the dump truck veered off Highway 78 to the right and overturned.

While both occupants were wearing seatbelts, SCHP says the passenger of the dump truck has died and the driver has been transported to Trident Medical with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office and Dorchester County Fire Department were both on the scene.
