Coroner identifies victim killed in Charleston County shooting
JAMES ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) - The coroner’s office says a James Island man died Sunday night in a shooting.
Nygel Covington, 22, died at the scene of a shooting on Secessionville Road from a gunshot wound, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Christina Harrison said.
Charleston County deputies respond to a call about a shooting in the 1300 block of Secessionville Road at 8:45 p.m. Sunday.
Deputies say that when they arrived the found an injured male on the property and a body a dirt roadway next to the address.
The sheriff’s office says the injured male was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries while deputies canvassed the area for evidence and witnesses.
Deputies say this is an active investigation and they are working to uncover the dead and injured males’ involvement in the shooting.
