CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - A new study from U-Haul has named Charleston in the top 20 cities for growth across the country.
U-Haul is naming Charleston the seventeenth fastest growing city for 2020. The moving company says their study looks at numbers of people moving to Charleston in their trucks.
People coming into Charleston one-way in a U-Haul truck is up 40% over the past year. However, the moving company did say that those leaving Charleston also rose 32%.
U-Haul says Charleston didn’t even make the “Top 25″ in 2019.
The study shows arrivals in Charleston account for 52.1% of all one-way U-Haul traffic in the Holy City.
U-Haul says their migration trends data is compiled from more than 2 million one-way truck-sharing transactions that occur annually in the U.S. and Canada.
While their migration trends do not correlate directly to population or economic growth, U-Haul says their growth data is an effective gauge of how well cities are attracting and maintaining residents.
U-Haul has provided their complete list of fastest growing cities on their website.
