CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County School District said winter sports games and competitions would remain suspended through Jan. 17.
The extension of an earlier suspension is designed as a precaution against the spread of COVID-19, a release from the district states.
Schools will work to reschedule all region games that have been missed since the pause began before Winter Break, district spokesperson Erica Taylor said.
Varsity teams for winter sports are allowed to continue to practice using strict safety protocols.
The district will continue to review and monitor conditions to determine if student athletes can resume competition beginning on Jan. 18.
