COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Thursday reported almost 5,000 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state Friday, setting a new daily record.

DHEC reported 4,986 new and another 91 probable cases. It also reported 28 confirmed and six probable deaths.

This brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in South Carolina since the start of the pandemic to 315,353 and deaths to 5,217, according to data from the agency.

Friday’s report included data from 15,691 test results with a percent positive of 31.8%
