NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The North Charleston Police Department says a man is being charged with murder after shooting another man at an apartment complex in North Charleston.

Affidavits say Ashley Allen Mount, 29, is being charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime after reportedly shooting Jaylyn Williams in the head during a confrontation.

They say it happened at about 3:41 p.m. Friday afternoon at an apartment at 9525 Highway 78 in North Charleston.

When police arrived at the scene, they say they found Williams shot in his apartment.

North Charleston Police say the victim died in an ambulance on the way to Trident Hospital.

They say Mount met police at the hospital and admitted to shooting the victim during an altercation at the apartment.

He also told them the weapon involved was in the vehicle he used to drive to the hospital, reports say.

Police say Mount and his brother went to the victim’s apartment to confront him after the victim and his girlfriend had a domestic dispute. The girlfriend’s mother was also with them, police say.

They say Mount and his brother went in the apartment to confront the victim about the dispute.

Reports say the girlfriend’s mother went into the apartment to break up the argument and heard four gunshots as she was on her way back outside.

Witnesses say the victim took a firearm and started shooting it at Mount and his brother.

Mount then returned fire, striking the victim multiple times and killing him, police say.

The relationship between Mount and the victim is unknown at this time.
