‘Massive’ food distributions coming to Lowcountry

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Community Resource Centers of Summerville and North Charleston say they will be hosting massive food distributions including fresh produce and canned goods.

The resource centers say they giveaways will begin Monday and extend through Saturday at various locations.

Organizers say the first distribution will be a Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Giveaway beginning at 2 p.m. Monday in Summerville. This distribution will take place at the Summerville Family YMCA, which organizers say is located at 208 W. Doty Ave in Summerville.

The next distribution will be held on Wednesday at the Community Resource Center North Charleston located at 3947 Whipper Barony Lane. Resource Center leaders say that distribution will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Also on Wednesday, organizers say they will have a food distribution at Saint James-Santee Elementary-Middle School located at 8900 US-17 in McClellanville. They say that giveaway starts at 3 p.m., also on Wednesday.

The Community Resource Center Ferndale says they will be hosting a food distribution at 4870 Piedmont Ave in North Charleston. Organizers say they will have a plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday.

The Community Resource Center Ferndale says they are partnering with Harvest Pointe Church for this giveaway.

The final food distribution for the week will be held by the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church located at 95 Cooper Street in Charleston. They say they will begin their distribution at 11 a.m. Saturday.

The Community Resource Centers say they and their volunteers have been working tirelessly to impact the members of the community throughout the pandemic.

They say they have seen a great increase in the need to feed the community during this time and invite all families to join them and receive fresh fruits and vegetables during their drive thru operation.
