CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston Fire Department says they know where a fire at a West Ashley home began but were still working to determine how it started.
Fire crews responded shortly before 9 p.m. Wednesday to a home on Evergreen Street, according to the Charleston Fire Department’s Facebook page.
Firefighters on the scene reported smoke coming from multiple sides of the single-story home. After making sure everyone was safely out of the home, they contained the fire in the attic space.
They say the fire began near HVAC equipment in the home’s attic. But as of Thursday morning, investigators were still working to pinpoint a specific cause.
The Red Cross is helping three adults and two children were displaced because of the fire.
No injuries were reported in the incident, firefighters say.
