CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Former Wando soccer player Hannah Betfort was selected with the 37th overall pick by the Portlant Thorns in the National Women’s Soccer League Draft on Wednesday by the Portland Thorns.
Betfort, who was selected 3rd-team All-ACC in 2020 while playing at Wake Forest, was also a captain for the Demon Deacons in her sophomore and junior seasons.
Betfort appeared in 65 games with 59 starts over her four seasons with the Demon Deacons, collecting eight assists along with six goals. Four different times the Charleston, S.C., native notched a game-winning goal as well.
“Congrats to Hannah on being drafted, the Portland Thorns are lucky to have her,” Wake Forest head coach Tony da Luz told the school’s athletic website. “She has unconditionally excelled in every role and is prepared for NWSL competition. Hannah is a brilliant student-athlete, a force on the field, and a person of impeccable character. This is something she has been working for all her life and I am so happy for her and her family.”
