CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The Charleston County Public Works Department says resumed construction on the Grimball Road Drainage Improvements project will close the road.

Beginning Monday, Grimball Road will be closed from Sea Water Drive to South Grimball Road.

Construction will begin on the unpaved portion of South Grimball Road and citizens who live in that area will have access to their homes during construction.

Authorities say the road is scheduled to be closed until January 25 and message boards will be placed Grimball Road’s intersection with Folly Road and Riverland Drive.

Those traveling to Septima P. Clark Corporate Academy will access the school via Grimball Road from Folly Road, Fort Johnson Road, or Riverland Drive, officials say. Those traveling to James Island Elementary School will access the school via S. Grimball Road from Folly Road.

The Grimball Road Drainage Improvements project includes the construction of a reinforced concrete pipe under Grimball and South Grimball Roadways. officials say this will help to alleviate flooding issues in this area of James Island.
