CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Tidelands Health says they are beginning to vaccinate adults 70 and older in the Lowcountry.

Hospital officials say vaccines are available by appointment only, but those 70 or older can request a vaccine at Tidelands Health’s website or by calling 1-866-TIDELANDS.

The healthcare provider released a statement saying they have received more than 30,000 requests for the vaccine, and it will take several weeks to administer a vaccine to everyone who has requested one.

“The speed at which we can vaccinate our community is determined by the availability of vaccine from the government,” the statement said

This week Tidelands Health officials say they expect to vaccinate up to 3,000 individuals with the vaccine they have in stock. They say they receive a new vaccine shipment each week and will schedule appointments based on the amount of vaccine they receive.

Tidelands Health says hospitals in South Carolina have been told to expect fewer doses of vaccine in the coming weeks.
