CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - City of Charleston officials say a new apartment complex could soon be coming near Ackerman Park in West Ashley.
The City of Charleston Planning Department says the application for the potential apartment complex shows it being built near the intersection of Saint Andrews Boulevard and Sycamore Avenue.
This is at the site of the old Ryan’s restaurant and plans show the entire property is a little over nine acres.
The planning department says the applicant has plans for retail and commercial spaces at the street level of the new apartments along Saint Andrews Boulevard.
The rest of the building will be residential and plans show it would be four stories high along Saint Andrews Boulevard and step up to five stories tall behind the commercial front.
Plans state the applicant wants to build 250 units in the complex.
A five-story parking garage is planned in the middle of the building because the city says they want to save space and still provide parking for the units. They say it also enables the developer to provide more units.
The design of the new apartments is still in the review process.
The City of Charleston Design Review Board says they will review these plans at their 4:30 p.m. meeting Tuesday.
