Makeover begins for Myrtle Beach SkyWheel ahead of 10th anniversary
The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel's makeover has begun ahead of its 10th anniversary.

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WMBF) - The iconic Myrtle Beach SkyWheel is missing some pieces as it undergoes a makeover for its upcoming 10th anniversary.

Officials with the city of Myrtle Beach said removing the gondolas and dissembling the wheel is expected to take three weeks.

Drivers can expect traffic to be impacted due to a crane that will be in the northbound lane of Ocean Boulevard.

Officials said drivers will be detoured to 14th Avenue North, Withers Alley and Mr. Joe White Avenue from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

SkyWheel officials later Thursday shared a first glimpse at a piece of the attraction being removed on social media.

FLYBY OF OUR SKYWHEEL PIE: The first piece of our SkyWheel pie is removed! 1 down and 20 more pieces of the pie to go over the next few weeks.
