CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The North Charleston Fire Department responded to an apartment fire in Charleston County on Monday morning. It happened at the Driftwood Apartments near Ashley Phosphate Road.
At 9:11 a.m., 911 operators received a call regarding a fire at an apartment. When firefighters arrived they found a two-story apartment building with smoking coming from the area of the roof.
Firefighters said they were able to protect the nearby apartments and evacuate the other apartments in the building.
“One apartment was affected by the fire. Red Cross is assisting two adults and two children,” NCFD officials said.
According to NCFD officials, the occupants of the apartment said that they keep a candle burning in the home continuously.
“The initial fire investigation has identified the candle as the cause of the apartment fire. There were no injuries reported,” authorities said.
