SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after one person died and two others were injured in a shooting at an apartment complex.

It happened Tuesday at the Azalea Park Apartments on Orangeburg Road.

Authorities have not released information about any arrests.

Just after 11:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office responded to the apartment complex for a call of shots fired in the area. When deputies arrived they found two victims, one of whom was declared deceased.

Investigators say a short time later another victim was located. Two people were taken to Trident Medical Center for treatment.

The Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, Lt. Rick Carson, says the area is safe now and there are no issues.

“Anytime something like this happens you’ve got a question about safety, with Dorchester County deputies arriving on scene and also with the help of Summerville we secured the area very quickly,” Carson said.

People who live in the area say they heard multiple gunshots.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Unit and detectives from the crime scene unit are on the scene, and the sheriff’s office said those units will be on scene for some time.

Earlier in the day, Summerville High School, Gregg Middle School, Knightsville Elementary were all on a ‘soft lockdown” due to the incident.
