ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Investigators have charged an Orangeburg County man accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile.

The sheriff’s office said 26-year-old Michael Blade Hoover of Neeses has been charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct-victim under the age of 16. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety during a hearing on Friday.

“This child should have been able to trust this adult for safety,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said. “But instead, that trust was betrayed in the worst way possible.”

Ravenell said investigators were notified that a juvenile had been sexually assaulted more than once in late 2020.

Hoover was taken into custody on Thursday. If convicted, Hoover faces up to 20 years in prison.
