CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia’s Emma Navarro (Charleston, S.C.) has been named the ACC Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Year in honors announced Thursday (Apr. 29) by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Additionally, Navarro and sophomore Natasha Subhash (Fairfax, Va.) were both named to the All-ACC First Team while senior Rosie Johanson (Vancouver, Canada) earned third-team honors.

Navarro opened her collegiate career with 14-consecutive victories on the top court and heads into the postseason with a 17-1 record. Navarro became the third player in program history to earn a No. 1 ITA singles ranking when she moved up to the top position on April 13. She currently ranks third. She was named the ACC Freshman of the Week six times this season and ACC Player of the Week twice. Her only loss in singles this season was when she was edged in three sets by reigning NCAA Singles Champion Estella Perez-Somerriba of Miami. Navarro is also ranked in the top-25 in doubles, partnering with Johanson.

Navarro is the second player in program history to be named the ACC Freshman of the Year joining Julia Elbaba (2013).
