Missing 8-year-old VA girl with autism found safe

ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - Roanoke Police confirmed Tuesday afternoon an 8-year-old girl with autism has been found safe more than 12 hours after she went missing.

The child was found in someone’s vehicle by the vehicle owner at approximately 12:30 p.m., police said. Officers believe the person who found her recognized her from news reports and contacted police.

The vehicle where she was found was only about a mile from her home, authorities say.

Police said she was back in the custody of her father.
