Authorities identify murder suspect in St. Stephen shooting

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - Investigators have identified a murder suspect who was arrested following a fatal shooting in St. Stephen.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said 31-year-old Dana Allyce Scott has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in the shooting that happened on Monday night. Sherwood Johnson, 37, died at the scene of the shooting in the 100 block of Gourdin Street, Coroner George Oliver said.

Just before 8 p.m., Berkeley County deputies responded to assist St. Stephen Police for a shooting that happened at 103 Gourdin Street.

When deputies arrived they found the deceased victim who suffered multiple gunshot wounds. A report states preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting was domestic related.

“The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office continues to assist St. Stephen Police Department with the investigation,” BCSO officials said.

Pictures from the scene at the time of the investigation showed authorities had taped off two buildings in the area of Gourdin Street and Cedar Drive. Law enforcement had also closed a portion of the street as authorities investigated.
