Police: One person in custody following standoff at Summerville apartment complex

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCSC) - Officials with the Summerville Police Department say one person is in custody following a standoff at an apartment complex in Summerville Monday night.

Officers arrested Barrett Andrew Gulyas. His arrest stems from an incident that happened at the Legends of Azalea apartment complex on 3500 Pinckney Marsh Ln.

Police officers say they received a call at 5:20 p.m. involving a woman who said her boyfriend had pointed a gun at her. Authorities then responded to the complex for a barricaded subject. According to police, the incident ended peacefully and the boyfriend is in custody.

A police report states that at 5:13 p.m., police officers responded to the complex for a domestic disturbance, and were told that the suspect had made entry into the apartment with a gun in his hand.

According to the incident report, police set up a perimeter with SWAT also responding to the scene and safely extracted the victim. Responding officers said they learned that the suspect had pointed a gun at the victim’s head.

SWAT units said they were able to make contact with the suspect and take him into custody.
