ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the victim of a deadly Wednesday night vehicle versus pedestrian crash.

It happened on I-95 northbound around the 98-mile marker in the Santee area at 6:20 p.m. Wednesday.

A 1996 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling north on I-95 when it hit a pedestrian traveling west across I-95, according to LCpl. Nick Pye of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

In a release, Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office says it is unable to identify the victim of the crash.

“Unfortunately, at this time, we’re unable to identify the individual fatally wounded in the collision. We are asking for the public’s help if they live in the Santee area or may have been in the area just before the collision,” the release states.

Officials say the victim is a black male, possibly in his 40s or early 50s, and was wearing a gold shirt with blue jeans and black shoes. He was not carrying identification.

The coroner’s office is asking anyone who may be familiar with the man or with information on the case to contact the office at 803-533-5842 or 888-850-8667.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
