Suspect in deadly Charleston shooting arrested in Georgia

DECATUR, Ga. (WCSC) - Atlanta Area U.S. Marshals have arrested a Charleston man accused of a deadly shooting.

Ryan D’Lorenzo Lewis, 30, of Charleston, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, first-degree assault and battery, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime and two counts of attempted murder, according to the Charleston Police Department.

At approximately 11 p.m. on July 5, an officer patrolling the Bridgeview Apartment complex at 104 North Romney St. reported hearing multiple gunshots, Sgt. Chris Stinson said.

More than 10 additional units responded to the scene and officers found three people suffering from gunshot wounds.

Brian Fokes, 44, of Charleston died at approximately 11:21 p.m. from injuries sustained in a shooting, Charleston County Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said.

Fokes was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two victims were transported to local hospitals and have since been released.

During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Ryan D’Lorenzo Lewis.

Lewis was taken into custody in Decatur, Georgia by the Atlanta Area U.S. Marshals Thursday.
