Judge denies bond for Georgetown man charged in 16-year-old’s shooting death
GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The man accused of fatally shooting a 16-year-old girl Sunday will stay behind bars for now.
Dae’mon Hykem Sanders, 20, is charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and unlawful carry of a firearm, sheriff’s spokesman Jason Lesley said.
During a bond hearing Monday afternoon, a magistrate judge denied bond. In South Carolina, only a circuit judge may set bond for a murder charge.
The charges stem from a shooting Sunday afternoon outside the Plantersville Gas Station that left 16-year-old Natiya Browne, 16, of Charlotte, North Carolina, dead, Georgetown County Coroner Chase Ridgeway said.
Deputies responded Sunday at 2:47 p.m. to the Plantersville Gas Station where the shooting occurred, an incident report states. Deputies reported Browne having two gunshot wounds.
Witnesses told deputies the alleged shooter had been seen at a trailer across the street. Deputies were able to take him into custody shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday, Lesley said.

Ridgeway says Browne will undergo an autopsy at MUSC on Wednesday.
Sanders was booked at the Georgetown County Detention pending a bond hearing Monday.
