Organizers of the Cooper River Bridge Run announced Thursday that everyone who participates in the event must show proof they are fully vaccinated or have tested negative for COVID prior to the start of the Expo.
According to Bridge Run organizers, they are following CDC and DHEC guidelines for the race: Giving out masks and hand sanitizer in runners’ packets and requiring masks at the expo in the corrals and on bus shuttles.
"I call them my purple legs," Marka Danielle Rodgers said, prior to her Wednesday physical therapy session at Roper St. Francis hospital. "My favorite color is purple, my chair is purple and when they asked me what color I wanted my braces, of course, I chose purple."
Simon Ndirangu has won the 36th annual Cooper River Bridge Run. Ndirangu's time was 28:05 and he also won the run in 2010. The women's winner at 32:17 was Hiwott Awalaw. Michael Banks was the Newberry winner finishing at 30:14.
Runners and walkers in this year's Cooper River Bridge Run are going to have more eyes eyes on them than usual. Cops, more than ever before, from local, state and federal agencies will be out in full force, surrounding the festivities.
