Report: Resident subdues burglar with pipe, holds for police

DARLINGTON, SC (WMBF) - A Darlington man is in jail after the owner of the home he allegedly robbed hit him in the head with a pipe and held him for police, according to a report.

Bobby Brown, 42, of Darlington, is charged with first degree burglary and larceny. He is being held at the Darlington County Detention Center.

According to the 58-year-old victim, he arrived at his home in the 500 block of North Main Street around 8:30 p.m. Monday and saw Brown burglarizing his home. He called police from outside the house, but before they arrived Brown began to leave the home.

Brown realized he had been seen, according to the report, and the victim told him not to move because police were on the way. The victim said Brown began toward him and he struck Brown in the head with a pipe. The victim said he did not know if Brown was armed, but said he feared for his safety.

Officers arrived at the home around 8:50 p.m. and found Brown sitting on the ground in front of the home with a head wound and blood on his shirt. He was transported to an area hospital.

Investigators say Brown attempted to steal $230 worth of Pine-Sol, terry cloth towels and a Dewalt power drill.
