NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A Coast Guard cutter based in South Carolina is getting a new commander.

Lt. Cmdr. Peter Niles is taking command from Comdr. Michael Glander in a formal ceremony scheduled for Friday in North Charleston for the 225-foot Coast Guard Cutter Oak.

The Oak and its 50-member crew serves primarily in the southeastern United States.

The vessel and crew recently returned from a two-month tour in the Gulf of Mexico where it conducted oil skimming operations off Alabama and Florida after the BP oil well disaster.
